During the Spring of 2006 the Foxborough Historical Commission was told that a demolition permit would likely be filed to demolish both the Faught and Kerr-Carpenter-Haigis home in order to build a new CVS pharmacy in town. The group spread the word through the community not only about the potential loss of the homes, but also about the impact former owners had in the community. Newspaper articles and editorials were written through the summer.

An advertisement was placed in local newpapers offering the Kerr-Carpenter-Haigis home for the bargain price of $1. Several individuals showed interest in both homes, but the smaller Kerr-Carpenter-Haigis home had the best chance to be saved due to the condition of the home, the historical impact of the previous owners, and the size of the structure. One individual possessed both the desire and resources to save the Kerr-Carpenter-Haigis home.

Dick Stevens served as the President of the Foxborough Savings Bank for 30 years and looked out on the Kerr - Carpenter - Haigis home. When faced with the possible loss of the home of the town's most influential citizen, Dick and wife Gail (shown here on moving day in the autumn of 2006) stepped forward to help save the home. Not only did the couple save the home, but they served as the driving force behind its restoration.
